Closing thoughts as we end the year…
It’s Monday, December 1, 2025. Fourteen days until the beginning of Hanukkah, 25 days to Christmas. Thirty-one days until we say goodbye to 2025. It will mean the first quarter of the 21st century is over. Time to think of what this year has meant to Community Helpers of San Fernando Valley.
On May 31 we said goodbye to Assistance League and on June 1 we started on our journey to make the transition to becoming a new, independent, nonprofit organization here in the Valley. The transition was slow because every step had to be taken in order. No rushing. Wouldn’t call it bureaucratic red tape – just steps to ensure that when all was set in place we were still a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. Yes, we are the same member volunteer organization that started in 1989 working to make life a little easier for those in need. Only our name has changed.
A short letter was sent to all of our donors and the philanthropic organizations we support. We wanted everyone who knew us as Assistance League that the only thing that has changed is our name. We would still support our 29 elementary schools; the hospital we make our Kids Kits for and deliver to monthly; the hospitals we deliver our Bear Buddies to twice a year; new clothes to C.A.T.S. for victims of abuse; and the West Valley Food Pantry who receives our Kits for the Homeless and distributes them to those in need when they pick up food from the Pantry.
All of the paperwork left no time for fundraising since our name change. And we need to do something about that. Our website is up: chsfv.org and soon PayPal will be working and we will welcome donations for our programs.
Happy Holidays to all!
